The Alfred State College women's basketball team opened up the 2009 portion of their season with a 64-42 victory over Elmira JV on Wednesday evening. The Lady Pioneers improve to 5-7 on the year.
Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led ASC with 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. Shawna McNeil (Hornell) added a career high 14 poitns and nine boards while Megan Coates (Nazareth) chipped in 10 points. Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) finished with nine points.
Alison Shultes recorded a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead Elmira while Jenna Lamb finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
ASC shot 39.4% (24 for 66) on the game while Elmira shot just 24.3% (17 for 70).
The Lady Pioneers return to WNYAC play on Tuesday when they host Niagara CCC. Opening tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (This Saturday's scheduled contest vs. JCC-Olean has been cancelled - the men's contest will now be played at 1 p.m.)
