The Alfred State College softball team concluded a busy week with a doubleheader sweep of Jefferson CC, 5-3 and 3-2, on Sunday afternoon.  The Lady Pioneers are now 11-12 overall on the year and 8-4 in Region III play.

The Alfred State College softball team concluded a busy week with a doubleheader sweep of Jefferson CC, 5-3 and 3-2, on Sunday afternoon.  The Lady Pioneers are now 11-12 overall on the year and 8-4 in Region III play.

In the opener, Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT) and Leandra Spoor (Laurens) each drew bases loaded walks in the deciding 4th inning to break a 2-2 tie.  Jessica Herbst (Naples) added an insurance run with a RBI groundout. 

Herbst led the offense with a 2 for 4, 2 RBI day while Amanda Theleman (Whitney Point) registered her 8th win of the campaign with seven solid innings.  She allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out seven Cannoneer batters.

In the nightcap, the Lady Pioneers scored the deciding three runs again in the bottom of the 4th inning.  Katie Marlow (Franklin Academy) and Hilary York (Canisteo Greenwood) drove in runs. 

Herbst tossed six solid innings on the mound to earn the victory.  She allowed seven hits and two runs to improve to 3-4 on the year.  Theleman registered her first save of the year by getting the final three outs in the 7th.

The blue and gold return to action on Tuesday when they host Monroe CC in a WNYAC doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
