The Alfred State College softball team downed Finger Lakes CC 7-4 and 7-6 to inch closer to .500.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 6-7 overall on the season and 3-1 in Region III Division III play.

The Alfred State College softball team downed Finger Lakes CC 7-4 and 7-6 to inch closer to .500.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 6-7 overall on the season and 3-1 in Region III Division III play.

In the opener, Amanda Theleman (Whitney Point) didn't allow an earned run in six innings of work.  She allowed two hits while striking out four.  Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT) led the offense with a 3 for 4 day.  Jessica Herbst (Naples) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Theleman drove home two runs with on a double in the 2nd.

In the nightcap, Fitzpatrick broke a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the 7th with a walk-off single that scored Leandra Spoor (Laurens).  Spoor led off the inning with a single followed by a single by Herbst and an intentional walk to Theleman.

Theleman led the way with a 2 for 2 day with 2 RBI.  She also picked up the win coming out of the bullpen.  She allowed two earned runs in four innings of work.  She walked one and struckt out four. Alicia McFarland (Avoca) was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Loder was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Spoor was 2 for 4.

The Pioneers hit the road on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Onondaga CC.
