The Alfred State College softball team opened up the Northern portion of their schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Elmira College JV on Thursday evening.  The Blue and Gold won the opener 11-7 and the nightcap 12-0.  ASC improves to 3-7 on the year.

The Alfred State College softball team opened up the Northern portion of their schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Elmira College JV on Thursday evening.  The Blue and Gold won the opener 11-7 and the nightcap 12-0.  ASC improves to 3-7 on the year.

ASC used a nine-run 5th inning to take control of the opener.  Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) was 3 for 4 in the opener to pace the offense while Caitlin Neill (Alfred Almond), Kathy McCarthy (Orchard Park), Bridgett Bachert (Horseheads), Casey Downing (Cobleskill-Richmondville), Teresa Walker (Jamestown), and Becky Simpson (Campbell Savona) all collected two hits. 

Simpson pitched a complete game to earn the win.  She allowed one hit while striking out 11 batters.

Flint tossed a complete game shutout in game two to complete the sweep.  She allowed just one hit while striking out eight batters.  McCarthy was 3 for 4 to pace the offense while Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell), Bachert, Walker, and Shelley Flint (Alfred Almond) collected two hits each.

ASC begins Region III play on Tuesday when they travel to Erie CC for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the Lady Kats.
