Lady Pioneers shut out Corning in Opener

The Alfred State College women's soccer team opened up the 2008 season with an impressive 7-0 victory at Corning CC on Thursday.  Six different Lady Pioneers found the back of the net in the victory.

The Alfred State College women's soccer team opened up the 2008 season with an impressive 7-0 victory at Corning CC on Thursday.  Six different Lady Pioneers found the back of the net in the victory.

Jessie Smith (Fredonia) scored a goal and passed out an assist in each half to pace Alfred's offense.  Theresa Hubbel (Bishop Kearney) tallied a goal and assist.

The Lady Pioneers scored four goals in the first half and added three more in the second.  ASC finished with 32 shots on goal.  Philicia Harris (Hutch Tech), Brandi Edwards (Andover), and Meghan Lowell (Keshequa) combined for the shutout.

Leandra Spoor (Laurens), Brittany Hannah (Eastridge), Caitlin Neill (Alfred Almond), and Rebekah Wyckoff (Laurens) all were credited with goals while Caitlyn Meeder (LeRoy) picked up an assist.

The Lady Pioneers continue their three game season opening road trip on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest at SUNY Delhi.
