After a slow start, the Alfred State College women’s basketball team got it going and was able to defeat Niagara CCC 67-59 in a Region III Division II Tournament 1st Round contest.  The Pioneerswill take on the #1 seed Genesee CC on Saturday in the regional final four.

After a slow start, the Alfred State College women’s basketball team got it going and was able to defeat Niagara CCC 67-59 in a Region III Division II Tournament 1st Round contest.  The Pioneerswill take on the #1 seed Genesee CC on Saturday in the regional final four.

The Thunder Wolves jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first seven minutes but the Lady Pioneers responded and took a one-point lead 33-32 at half.  Alfred State held the lead most of the second half and was able to stretch it out to as many as 12.

Amie Brooks (Pavilion) led all scorers with 23 points while Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) added 18 points.  Nuri Bey (Bronx/Evander Childs) had a monster night on the boards with 20 rebounds and five points.  Ardaisha Hudson (Brooklyn/Food & Finance) and Shadeeka Campbell (Brooklyn/William Grady) each finished with seven.

Raylyn Brooks led NCCC with 13 points while Jasmine Shabazz added 10 points and 12 rebounds.  Kierra Jackson chipped in 10 points.

ASC shot 34.6% from the field while NCCC shot 31.3%.  The Pioneers held a 57-51 advantage on the boards and for Niagara into 21 turnovers.

The Lady Pioneers (14-13, 4-7) travel to Genesee CC for the Region III Division II Final Four on Saturday.  They take on #1 Genesee CC at 1 p.m.
