Kingsborough and Mohawk Valley Lead After Day One of Track Nationals

Kingsborough CC leads the women's competition and Mohawk Valley CC leads the men's competition after day of the 2011 NJCAA Division III Track & Field Championships at Alfred State.  The host Pioneers sit in 2nd place in the men's competition while the women are 7th.

Kingsborpugh has scored 29 points followed by Harper (IL) College (28), Mohawk Valley CC (26), SUNY Delhi (12), Herkimer CCC (9), CC of Rhode Island (8), Alfred State (7), Gloucester CCC (6), Bronx CC (6), and Queensborough CC (5), Montgomery (MD) College (5).  Sixteen total teams have registered points after day one.

Mohawk Valley CC has 34 points ahead of Alfred State's 29.  Harper is 3rd (23) followed by Delhi (21), CC of Rhode Island (17), Gloucester (15), Kingsborough (11), Suffolk CC (11), Finger Lakes CC (6), Howard (MD) CC (6).  Fifteen teams have points after day one.

Alfred State College day one female highlights included: The 4 x 100 relay team ran the fastest time of prelims and set a new ASC record of 49.70.  Abbey Benton (Frewsburg) was 4th in the 10,000 (42:57.69), Shea McKee (Canisteo Greenwood) was 7th in the long jump (4.73 m)

Alfred State College day one male highlights included: Jordan Traina (Rochester/Gates Chili), Brett Harrington (Rochester/Edison), and Andy Jones (Milford) all earned All-American honors.  Traina was 2nd in the pole vault (4.10 m), Harrington 2nd in the long jump (6.59 m), and Jones was 2nd in the hammer throw (47.65 m). 

Chris Grey (Grahamsville/Tri-Valley) was 4th in the hammer throw (44.71 m).  The men's 4x100 relay team qualified for Saturday's final with the 3rd best time of 42.99.  Alex Hewlett (Wellsville) sits in 5th place after the first five events of the decathlon (2,937 points).
