Erie CC defeated Alfred State 12-4 in a Region III Division III baseball game played at Maple City Park on Thursday.  The second game of the doubleheader was called due to rain and poor field conditions prior to the game reaching an official game.

The Kats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning but the Pioneers got right back into the game in the bottom half of the inning when Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) connected on a three-run homer that escaped the park over the left field fence.  The homer was the first of the season for Wheaton.

Neither team could get on the board until the 4th when the Kats exploded for five more runs to put the game out of reach.  Garrett Hoag (Dansville) doubled home a run in the 5th to account for the Pioneers last run.

Hoag finished 2 for 4 with a RBI while Greg Koller (Chesterland, OH) was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Jesse Zellner led six Kats with multiple hits with a 2 for 4, 3 RBI day.  The Kats collected 14 hits including six extra base hits.

Erie led the nightcap 6-5 heading into the bottom of the 5th but heavy rains hit the Maple City and made the field unplayable.

Alfred State returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Canandaigua for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with the Lakers.  They return to the Southern Tier on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with the Lakers.
