The Alfred State women's basketball team raced out to a 43-20 halftime lead and held on for a 70-58 victory over Niagara CCC.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 6-7 on the year and 1-1 in WNYAC play.

The Alfred State women's basketball team raced out to a 43-20 halftime lead and held on for a 70-58 victory over Niagara CCC.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 6-7 on the year and 1-1 in WNYAC play.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led four Lady Pioneers in double-figures.  Brooks finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists.  Kristin Abbott (Webster Thomas) had a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards, Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) chipped in 12 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, and Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Margo Pagano led the Trailblazers with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Jeanette Dumais chipped in 15 points and 11 boards.  Arlene Andrade finished in double figures with 10 points while Kari Seabert led all players with 14 boards.

Alfred State shot 33.3% (30 for 90) from the field 40% (4 for 10) from three but just 27.3% (6 for 22) from the foul line while NCCC shot 29.7% (22 for 74) and 50% (14 for 28) from the foul line.  The Pioneers grabbed 68 rebounds (32 offensive) while the Blazers had 60 (22 offensive).

ASC returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Jamestown CC for a 5:30 p.m. contest with the Jayhawks.
