Cross Country: Women 7th, Men 8th at U of R

The Alfred State College cross country teams competed at the annual University of Rochester Invitational on Saturday afternnon at Genesee Valley Park.  The women's team finished 7th out of 9 teams that scored while the men finished 8th out of 15 scoring teams.

The Alfred State College cross country teams competed at the annual University of Rochester Invitational on Saturday afternnon at Genesee Valley Park.  The women's team finished 7th out of 9 teams that scored while the men finished 8th out of 15 scoring teams.

Carey Crooker (Addison) was the top Lady Pioneer finisher.  She ran the 5k course in 20:33 to earn 41st place.  Maria Wilson (Addison) was 63rd (21:34), Allynne O'Hearn (Pelham, NH) was 74th (22:02), Laura Babcock (Wellsville) was 80th (22:24), and Bridget McMahon (Avoca) was 99th (23:55).

SUNY Geneseo won the women's competition with a score of 39.  ASC was the top NJCAA school with their 7th place finish with 223 points.  115 competitors finished the course.

John Sweeney (Barker) finished 36th to lead the Pioneer men.  He finished the 8k course in 26:31 and was the top two-year athlete.  Brandon Lewis (Red Creek) finished 57th (27:08), Derek Snyder (Bath) was 78th (27:32), Joe Seitz (Williamsville) was 93rd (28:06), and Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda) finished 97th (28:11).

SUNY Geneseo's 39 points was top in the men's competition.  ASC was the top NJCAA school with 226 points.

Alfred State now has two weeks to prepare for the Region III Championships on Halloween.  The October 31st championship will begin 11 a.m. at SUNY Delhi.
