Cross Country: Men 4th, Women 6th at Highlander Invitational

The Alfred State College cross country teams fared very well as they competed versus a mostly four-year school field at the Highlander Invitational at Houghton College.  The men finished 4th out of 12 scoring teams while the women finished 6th out of 11.

The Alfred State College cross country teams fared very well as they competed versus a mostly four-year school field at the Highlander Invitational at Houghton College.  The men finished 4th out of 12 scoring teams while the women finished 6th out of 11.

John Sweeney (Barker) led the Pioneers with a 14th place on the 8K course.  He finished in 26:56.70.  Peter Francia (Greece Olympia) finished 32nd (27:41.90), Joe Seitz (Williamsville North) finished 39th (27:54.40), and Derek Snyder (Bath) finished 40th (28:02.20).  Logan Drummer (Pioneer) was the 5th man finishing in 49th with a time of 28:14.10.

ASC finished with a score of 127 trailing only RIT (15), Ithaca College (60), and Oswego (104).  Houghton finished 5th (131), followed by Hobart (155), Alfred University (192), Erie CC (198), Finger Lakes CC (277), Pitt Bradford (301), Bryant & Stratton (344), and SUNY Canton (345).

Carey Crooker (Addison) was the top Lady Pioneer finisher.  She crossed the 5k finish line in 20:18.10.  Abby Benton (Frewsburg) was 49th (21:50.90), Bridget McMahon (Avoca) was 50th (21:52.50), Maria Wilson (Addison) was 54th (22:25.40).  Allynne O'Hearn (Pelham, NH) was the 5th man finishing in 57th (22:38.30).

ASC scored a 166 trailing Ithaca's 27, RIT (55), Houghton (67), Alfred University (118), and Oswego (157).  William Smith finished 7th (174), Pitt Bradford was 8th (226), and Erie CC, Finger Lakes CC, and SUNY Canton were incomplete.

The blue & gold have a weekend off before heading back to action on October 10th at Nazareth College.
