The Alfred State cross country team finished a busy preseason this weekend with the running of the annual alumni race. The cross country program welcomed back 18 former runners to campus in the event.

The Alfred State cross country team finished a busy preseason this weekend with the running of the annual alumni race.  The cross country program welcomed back 18 former runners to campus in the event.


The men's alumni team came away with the victory in the race by one point.  The alumni were led by 2010 teammates Joe Seitz (1st - 18:33.5) and Alex Farrell (2nd - 18:43.1).  2012 Pioneers Jordan Rusek (Buffalo/Williamsville East) was 3rd (18:54.9), Casey Hopkins (Boston/Hamburg) was 4th (19:05), and Jedadiah Platt (Appleton/Barker) was 5th (19:09).  Pioneer cross country coach Gary Moore was the Alumni's 5th finisher in 10th place with a time of 20:48.7.


On the women's side Katy Monahan (Warsaw) was the top finisher in 24:57.7 followed by Megan Dillon (Angola/Lake Shore) in 25:16.0.  The lone female alumni finishe was Chris Klein (1982 grad) in in 27:25.3.


The alumni race capped the preseason that included two civic engagement projects. 



  • For the sixth straight season, the cross country hosted a high school friendly meet that served as a scrimmage for Hornell, Canisteo Greenwood, Cuba Rushford, Dansville, and Bath.  Each participant was asked to bring a food item that was donated to an Alfred area food pantry.

  • The cross country team also spent a Saturday afternoon cleaning up flower areas in Alfred Station.

The Pioneers open up the regular season on this coming Saturday when they host the annual Alfred State Invitational. The women's race starts at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 11:45 a.m.
