The Alfred State College softball team fell to Corning CC,  ranked #4 in NJCAA Division III, in their final road contest of the season.  The Lady Pioneers are now 12-22 (9-14 Region III Division III) after 10-6 and 10-2 defeats.

The Alfred State College softball team fell to Corning CC,  ranked #4 in NJCAA Division III, in their final road contest of the season.  The Lady Pioneers are now 12-22 (9-14 Region III Division III) after 10-6 and 10-2 defeats.

Corning held a 10-3 lead in the opener but the Pioneers rallied in the 7th inning.  ASC scored three times and had the tying run up when the Red Barons recorded the final out.  Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT) led the offense with a 3 for 4 day.  She scored three runs and drove in one.  Amanda Theleman (Whitney Point) connected on a double and drove home two runs.

Alfred State scored in the 1st inning of the nightcap but Corning responded with three in the 1st and two in the 3rd.  ASC closed it to 5-2 but the Red Barons added two runs in the 4th and three runs in the 5th to end the game.  Jess Herbst (Naples) and Theleman were each 2 for 3 in the nightcap.  Theleman and Leandra Spoor (Laurens) each drove home a run.

The blue and gold wrap up the season on Sunday when they host Herkimer CCC.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
