Corbett Sets New School Record as Pioneers Tune up for Regionals

Alfred State College sophomore swimmer Kaitlyn Corbett (Clarence) set a new school record in teh 100 backstroke as the Pioneers wrapped up the invitational portion of their schedule at the Genesee CC Cougar Winter Classic on Saturday.  Corbett swam a 1:07.86 to win the event and set a new school standard.

Alfred State College sophomore swimmer Kaitlyn Corbett (Clarence) set a new school record in the 100 backstroke as the Pioneers wrapped up the invitational portion of their schedule at the Genesee CC Cougar Winter Classic on Saturday.  Corbett swam a 1:07.86 to win the event and set a new school standard.

Corbett also finished 2nd in the 200 backstroke (2:33.91) and 5th in the 200 IM (2:42.18).  Jessica Chan (New Hyde Park) won the 100 free (1:03.04), finished 2nd in the 100 fly (1:14.69), and finished 3rd in the 200 back (2:39.10) while Becca Mastasio (Livonia) won the 500 free (6:08.11), finished 2nd in the 200 IM (2:38.18), and 3rd in the 50 free (28.16).

On the men's side, Dan Langworthy (Peekskill) was a double-winner.  He won the 50 free (24.01) and the 100 free (53.57).  Phillip Valenta (Maine Endwell) won the 200 breast (2:40.09), Paul Congdon (Bath) won the 500 free (5:52.41), and Garrett Chilson (Pioneer) won the 1 meter diving event (137.75).  Valenta added a 2nd place finishes in the 100 breast (1:11.39) and 400 IM (5:19.40) while Congdon was 2nd in the 100 free (56.16).

Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) finished 2nd in both the 50 free (24.09) and the 200 fly (2:22.45) while Alex Newell (Binghamton) finished 2nd in the 100 back (1:01.78) and the 200 back (2:10.97).  Sean Valvano (Newark) was 2nd in the 200 breast (2:44.88) and Kevin Minderlein (Salesianum) was 2nd in the 500 free (5:53.44).

The Pioneeers dive back into action on Tuesday when they travel to Jamestown CC to swim versus the Jayhawks and Erie CC.  This is the make-up meet from last Wednesday.
