Brooks Named Player of the Year

Alfred State College sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III Division II Player of the Year.  Her teammate and cousin Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) was also honored with a honorable All-Region selection.  Brittney Brooks becomes the second straight Lady Pioneer to earn the player of the year honor (Anthia Smith - 2008).

Brittney Brooks, a transfer from Daemen College, led the region with a 19.0 point per game average.  Her 455 points ranks her 7th all-time in a single season in the Alfred State record book.  She also grabbed a team high 210 rebounds (8.8 per game), passed out 64 assists, and was credited with 51 steals and 25 blocks.

On the year, Brooks had nine double-doubles, three games in which she scored 30 or more points, 11 games in which she scored 20 or more points, and was held under ten points in just two of the Lady Pioneers 24 games.  Her season best outing came versus Erie CC when she netted 33 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and was credited with four assists and steals. 

Sherelle Brooks ran the point all season for the Lady Pioneers.  She finished the season with 130 assists (5.4 per game) which ranks her 6th all-time in in a single season at Alfred State.  Brooks also scored 206 points (8.6 per game), grabbed 133 rebounds (5.5 per game), and came up with 39 steals (1.6 per game).

For the year, Brooks recorded double-doubles in two games.  In eight games she scored in double figures, in four games she grabbed more than 10 rebounds, and in three games she reached double-digits in assists.  She scored a season high 27 points early in the season in a victory at Corning CC and ended the season with a season high 12 assists in the Region III Division II first round tournament game versus Erie CC.

Sherelle Brooks finishes her two-years at Alfred State with 316 points, 253 assists, 251 rebounds, and 73 steals in 48 games.
