Jamestown Olean used a four-run 5th inning in game one and a seven-run 5th inning to defeat Alfred State 5-1 & 8-1 in a Region III Division III doubleheader on a beautiful Thursday afternoon.

In the opener, the Jaguars scored in the 1st but the Pioneers tied it in the 4th when Shelby Freligh (Auburn/Union Springs) doubled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a passed ball.  JCC answered right back in the 5th and scored four runs to put the game out of reach.

Freligh was the lone Pioneers with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 with two doubles.  Alfred State was held to just five hits in the contest.

The Pioneers scored in the 1st inning of game two to take an early lead when Freligh grounded out to score Tara Scholla (Genesee Valley).  JCC tied it in the 3rd with an unearned run and then exploded for seven runs in the 5th.  The Pioneers were held to just three hits in the game with Kristen Potter (Northern Potter, PA) collecting two in three at bats including a double and a triple.

The Lady Pioneers continue their three day homestand on Saturday when they host Mercyhurst North East at 1 p.m.
