The Alfred State College baseball team split a WNYAC doubleheader vs. Erie CC on Sunday afternoon.  The Kats won the opener 9-7 while the Pioneers won the nightcap 2-0.  ASC is now 3-3 on the season.

In the nightcap, John Whitehead (Amherst) tossed a complete game two-hitter.  He allowed just a single in the 2nd and a single in the 6th.  He finished with four walks and a strikeout in picking up his first win of the fall season.

The Pioneers scored in the 1st inning on a RBI single by Lukas Schuetz (Schwechat, Austria) and added an insurance run in the 3rd when JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored on an error.

In the opener, ECC jumped out to a big lead and held off a Pioneer 7th inning rally.  Trailing 9-2, the Pioneers scored five runs and had the tying runs on base but couldn't plate the tying runs.  Frey led the offense with a 2 for 4 day while Rudy Galan (Bronx/Monroe) was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI.

Alfred State returns to action on Saturday when they host Monroe CC in another WNYAC doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
