Baseball splits with Corning

The Alfred State College baseball team split a Region III doubleheader versus Corning CC on Thursday at Bolivar Richburg High School.  The Red Barons took the opener 4-0 while the Pioneers won the nightcap 12-3.

The Alfred State College baseball team split a Region III doubleheader versus Corning CC on Thursday at Bolivar Richburg High School.  The Red Barons took the opener 4-0 while the Pioneers won the nightcap 12-3.

Steve Hughes tossed a complete game six hitter to lead Corning to the game one victory.  He sturck out three and walked none.  Mike Dipierro led the Red Baron offensive attack with a 2 for 4, 2 RBI day while Dan Telehany was 2 for 4.

Bruno Saraceno (Binghamton) was the lone Pioneers with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3.  ASC was held to just five singles and a double.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers got the offense going with a six-run 3rd inning and added three more runs in the 4th and 5th innings.  Corey McEnroe (Millbrook) led the offense with a 2 for 2, 3 RBI performance while Jeff Paul (Horseheads) was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Kevin Underhill (Somers) chipped in two singles in four at bats.

Joel Green (Horseheads) got the win in relief after tossing 2.2 innings of relief.  Craig Kosnikowski (N. Tonawanda) allowed just two hits in the first 3.1 innings but had to leave the game with an injury.

The Pioneers hit the road on Saturday when they head to Sewell, NJ to take on Gloucester CC for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.  The Blue and Gold continue on the road on Sunday with a Noon doubleheader at Hagerstown CC.
