Five members of the Alfred State College wrestling team finished in the top three of their weight class as the Pioneers finished 3rd at the 2011 Northeast District Championships.

Five members of the Alfred State College wrestling team finished in the top three of their weight class as the Pioneers finished 3rd at the 2011 Northeast District Championships held at Springfield Tech (Springfield, MA).

Cody Dill (Unatego), Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley), and Taylor Nelson (Somers) each advanced to the championship bout of their weight class before finishing as district runner-ups.  Dill wrestled at 133, Peet at 149, and Nelson at 197.

Dill defeated Lance Zernick (Jamestown CC) 3-2 but then fell 17-5 to Tim Hubbard (Mercyhurst North East.  Peet pinned David Lyons (Niagara CCC) and Donovan Williams (Jamestown CC) to reach the finals but fell 12-4 to Jake Kondrlik (Mercyhurst NE).  Nelson pinned Riley Sheldon (Jamestown  CC) in the semifinals but lost a 6-4 decision to Travis Taylor (Niagara CCC) in the finals.

At 125 lbs. Kyle Conrad (Bath) and at 141 lbs. James Barlow (Wayland Cohocton) earned 3rd place finishes.  Conrad defeated Springfield Bui (Springfield Tech) in the 3rd place match 6-3 while Barlow earned a 6-0 decision over Paul Cadek (Jamestown CC) in the first round and then defeated him again 6-4 in the 3rd place match after falling in the semifinals to the eventual champion.

The Pioneers scored 76.5 points on the day to earn 3rd place.  Mercyhurst North East won the title with 137.5 points followed by Niagara CCC's 136.5.  Springfield Tech was 4th with 74.5 points and Jamestown CC was 5th with 67.5.

ASC will next compete Feb. 25-26 at the NJCAA National Championships in Spokane, WA.
