This award "recognizes the extraordinary compassion and collaborative spirit
with the Finger Lakes SPCA for the benefit of those who cannot speak for
themselves."  Alfred State College (students, faculty, and staff)
supported the August 2008 Equine Rescue led by the Finger Lakes SPCA. Many of
the students under ASC Professor Vicki Bolton's direction and guidance nursed
horses who were on the brink of death back to health.  This effort took
endless hours of skill and compassion. The horses embraced by Alfred State
College and supported by the Animal Welfare Institute (which contributed to the
horses' care) can look forward to their future, physically healed, and looking
forward to adoption.  Wendy Dresser-Recktenwald, director, Alfred State
College Human Resources and Center for Community Education and Training and CEO
of the board of the Humane Society of Hornell, accepted on behalf of the
college.
