The Pioneers (8-5, 4-2 RIII DIII) won a wild opener jumping to a 13-3 lead and held off a late-inning Jayhawk charge stranding the tying run on first as the game ended.  The Pioneers scored three in the 1st, one in the 2nd, two in the 3rd, and exploded for seven in the 4th.  JCC used a five-run 5th inning to get back in the game, added two in the 6th, and crept closer with a single run in the 7th.

Kevan Smith (Cicero North Syracuse) led seven Pioneers with two hits with a 2 for 4, 3 RBI game.  Dennis Dueno (Brooklyn/Bishop Ford) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, JP Frey (Erie, PA/Millcreek) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, and Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) and Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) were each 2 for 3 with a RBI.  Anthony Espe (Union Endicott) was 2 for 5.

ASC raced out to a 3-0 lead in the game two scoring one in the 1st and two in the 2nd but Jamestown scored one in the 3rd and took the lead with three in the 4th.  They added an insurance run in the 6th and held off any Pioneer rally.

Mann was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3.  Steven Butler (Middletown) allowed nine hits and four earned runs in six innings of work in his first collegiate start.

The Pioneers travel to Erie CC on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. first pitch with the Kats.
