Lady Pioneers Down NCCC

The Alfred State women's basketball team erased a 1st half deficit and defeated Niagara CCC 60-49 to register their 10th victory of the season.  The Lady Pioneers are 10-4 on the year and 2-0 in Region III Division II play.

The blue & gold trailed 29-23 at half but rallied the tie the game in the first six minutes of the 2nd half.  After trading the lead a few times the Lady Pioneers 17 to 6 run in the final eight minutes to take control of the game.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) recorded another double-double with 21 points and 15 boards.  She also had six steals and four blocks.  Helena Covington (Elmira Free) came off the bench and chipped in 10 points and seven boards.

Sally Santiago (Bronx/Our Lady of Good Counsel), Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West), Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy), and Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) all finished with six points each.

Kristine Ripson led the Thunderwolves (6-7, 0-2) with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Jessica Curry had 12 points and nine boards.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they host Erie CC at the Orvis Activties Center.  Opening tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
