Wrestlers Battle Tough in 2013 Opener
The Alfred State wrestling teams battled tough but fell twice as they opened up 2013 at the Alfred State Duals. They opened the day with a 27-24 loss to Penn College of Technology and then fell 42-16 to Bergen (NJ) CC.
In the match-up with Penn College only four matches were competed on the mat due to three Pioneer forfeits, two Wildcat forfeits, and a no match. Tyler Aldinger (Alexander) earned a pin over Cesar Gonzales at 149 lbs. and Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) pinned Austin Clark at 165 lbs. Ethan Livernash (Penfield) and Dan Ognibene (Alexander) earned forfeit victories.
Bergen jumped out to a 18-0 lead and never looked back in the second match. Aldinger earned a 15-3 victory over Miguel Henriquz and Simons earned a pin in 2:22 over Krisztof Kucab. Ognibene earned a forfeit victory at heavyweight to account for the final Pioneer points.
The blue & gold now have a week to prepare for the Mt. Union (Alliance, OH) Open. Wrestling is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
