Witchella and Thone Named Athletes of the Week

Basketball player Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) and swimmer Danielle Thone (Wappingers Falls/Roy Ketcham) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Witchella had a big week for the blue & gold averaging 22.7 points and 16 rebounds per game. She also added 17 blocks and 11 steals. She had a triple-double vs. Corning with 26 points, 17 rebounds and 10 blocks. She was also named All-Tournament after scoring 42 points and grabbing 31 rebounds.

Thone was a triple winner at the Herkimer CCC Fall Invitational.  She won the 50 free (27.18), the 100 free (59.74), and the 200 butterfly (2:34.08) to score 48 points for the Lady Pioneers.  Earlier in the week at a WNYAC double dual, she was 2nd in the 50 free (27.54) and 3rd in the 100 fly (1:07.11).

The women's basketball is back in action on Nov. 26 vs. Penn College while the swimming team is at the Monroe CC Invitational on Nov. 30.
