Ognibene and Joyner Named Athletes of the Week

Wrestler Dan Ognibene (Alexander) and football player Alonzo Joyner (Queens) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week. 

Ognibene was 4-2 at the Ursinus Fall Brawl over the weekend.  He opened the day with a 7-0 victory over Brett Ackerley (Delaware Valley). He fell in his next match but rebounded with three straight consolation bracket victories; 2-0 over Matt Jorgensen (Delaware Valley), a pin of Jacob Sentz (Stevens), and a 6-1 win over Steven Paul (Elizabethtown). His day came to an end in the consolation quarterfinals when he fell 12-7 to Noah Gesford (Delaware Valley).

Joyner led the Pioneers with 11 tackles (8 solo and 1.5 for a loss) in the team's 30-24 season ending victory over Hudson Valley CC.  He was also credited with two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.  Offensively he completed a 31-yard pass and ran for 21-yards on two fake punts run by the special teams.  Both plays resulted in 1st downs and kept drives alive.  He finishes the season as the Pioneers leading tackler with 75.
