Lady Pioneers Advance to WNYAC Semi’s

The Alfred State volleyball team was 2-1 at the Western New York Athletic Conference tournament held at Genesee CC.  The Lady Pioneers head into the Region III Tournament with a 26-13 overall record.

The #6 seeded Lady Pioneers defeated #7 Mercyhurst North East 25-11, 25-20, 25-11 and then downed #3 Genesee CC 14-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-12 to advance to the tournament semifinals.  In the semi’s, Alfred won the first game 25-23 over #2 Niagara CCC but the Thunderwolves won the next three 18-25, 23-25, 21-25 to advance to the tournament finals.

Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene) was named All-Tournament team after having a solid day.  She recorded 18 kills, 12 service aces, and four blocks.  She was credited with 51 service points.

Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) finished with 32 kills and 29 digs, Michelle Wesolowski (Attica) chipped in 22 digs, 14 kills, seven aces and 54 service points, and Mercedes Bossard (Hornell) had 90 assists, 23 digs, and eight aces.  Jessica Ramsey (Tioga) finished with 39 digs and Sarah Linn (Portville) had nine kills.

The Lady Pioneers are the #4 seed in this week’s Region III Division III tournament which will be held at Niagara CCC.  Match times will be announced later this week.
