Volleyball Falls in Quarters

The Alfred State volleyball team fell in the quarterfinals of the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament held at Onondaga CC.  The Pioneers split a pair of preliminary games in the morning but lost a tough 2-1 decision to Herkimer CCC in the tournament quarterfinals.

The Pioneers earned their 20th win of the season with a 25-10, 25-14 victory over Mohawk Valley CC to start the day.  They then fell 17-25, 23-25 to the host Onondaga CC and finished the preliminary round as the #7 seed.  They drew #2 Herkimer and fell 25-21, 21-15, 12-15.

Lera Braun (Waterloo) led the way with 60 assists, 13 kills, 12 digs and seven aces while Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) had 31 kills, 24 digs, and six aces.  Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene) had 11 digs and 10 kills, Mercedes Bossard (Hornell) had 29 digs, and Sarah Linn (Portville) chipped in 19 digs, eight kills, and four aces.

The Lady Pioneers are now 20-10 on the season and will travel to Mercyhurst North East on Tuesday for a WNYAC contest with the Saints. 

By reaching the 20-win plateau the volleyball program has now won 20 or more games the past seven seasons and eight of the last nine.
