Baseball to take on Mercyhurst North East in WNYAC Tournament Opener

The Alfred State baseball team will travel to Mercyhurst North East on Tuesday to take on the #2 seed Saints in the opening round of the WNYAC Tournament.  MNE enters the tournament with a 5-3 record while the Pioneers are 0-10.

The winner of the 9-inning contest will travel to Batavia's Dwyer Stadium for the WNYAC final four.  They will take on the winner of the #3 Erie CC/#6 Jamestown CC contest.  First pitch of the semifinal is slated for 2 p.m.

Genesee CC is the #1 seed after accumulating a 12-0 regular season record.  Mercyhust (5-3) is #2, Erie (6-4) is #3, Niagara CCC (7-5) is #4, Monroe CC (5-5) is #5, Jamestown (1-9) is #6, and Alfred is #7.

The Pioneers are coming off a doubleheader loss to Genesee CC on Sunday.  The Pioneers fell 4-1 and 4-2.  Steven Stapleton (Sweet Home) had the RBI in the first game while Greg Koller (Chesterland, OH) had the lone hit.  Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) and Rocco Christian (Hancock) each had RBI's in game two while Stapleton and Jordan Confer (Tioga, PA) collected singles.
