Lady Pioneers Split at CGCC

The Alfred State softball team split a doubleheader at Columbia Greene CC on Saturday.  CGCC won the opener 13-5 while the Pioneers won the nightcap 9-4. 

With the game tied at 5-5, the Lady Twins scored six runs in the 4th to put the game out of reach.  Shelby Freligh (Auburn/Union Springs) was 2 for 3 with a RBI while Cora Murphy (Canisteo Greenwood) was 1 for 2 with a RBI.

The Pioneers added to a 3-0 lead in the nightcap with a six-run 3rd inning en route to the victory.  Athena Scavo (Hornell) was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI while Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) was 3 for 4.  Freligh finished the contest 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.  Kristen Potter (N. Potter, PA) earned the win on the mound with seven solid innings of work.  He struck out six while allowing three earned runs.

The blue & gold (3-21, 2-16 RIII DIII) continue their weekend road trip on Sunday with a Noon doubleheader at SUNY Delhi.
