Baseball Falls in Two Close Contests

Alfred State and Jamestown CC battled in two tight Region III Division III contests on Sunday with the Jayhawks coming up on top 3-1 and 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers are now 6-26 (5-15 Region III Division III) on the season.

In game one, Ryan Hierlwimmer (Livonia) collected two hits while Eric Mehaffy (Lisbon) had a RBI hit.  Garrett Hoag (Dansville) pitched 5.2 innings allowing three hits and no earned runs.  He struck out seven.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th but the Jayhawks rallied for the win collecting a walk-off single with two outs in the inning.  Ruben Mizrahi (Weston, FL) took the hard luck loss.  He went 6.2 innings.  He allowed five hits and four walks while striking out five.

The Pioneers were held to just four hits on the day.  Brett Rapan (Bolivar Richburg) collected a RBI hit while Mitch Smith (Greece Arcadia) drove in the other run.

The blue & gold return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Erie CC for a 2 p.m. doubleheader with the defending RIII DIII champs.
