Lady Pioneers Fall in Home Opener

The Alfred State softball team fell 10-0 and 13-4 to Onondaga CC as they opened up the home portion of the 2012 season.  The games were played in periodic snow showers, high wind, and low temperatures.

In the opener, OCC collected 13 hits and held the Pioneers to just two to earn the victory.  The Lady Lazers scored in five of the six innings and put the game out of reach with four runs in the 6th.  Reagan Ball (Hammondsport) collected a double while Michelle Krotje (Franklinville) had a single.

Onondaga jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the nightcap but the Lady Pioneers rebounded to cut the lead in half heading into the 5th inning.  In both the 5th and 6th, the Lazers took advantage of Pioneer miscues and secured the victory.  Athena Scavo (Hornell) was 1 for 2 with a 2-run double and Cora Murphy (Canisteo Greenwood) was 1 for 2 with a RBI single.

The blue & gold (1-11, 0-6 Region III Division III) travel to Genesee CC on Thursday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the Cougars.
