Pioneers Can't Rally All the Way Back

Monroe CC broke open a 3-3 tie by outscoring Alfred State 7-1 in the 2nd quarter en route to a 17-12 Region III victory.  #5 MCC improves to 4-1, 4-0 Region III while the Pioneers fall to 2-2, 2-1 Region III.

For the second straight game, the Pioneers struggled in the middle quarters.  The Pioneers were outscored 12-3 in the 2nd and 3rd quarter and trailed 15-6 heading into the 4th quarter.  Alfred got the offense going again in the 4th but could not overcome the deficit.

Mike Hart (Ajax, ONT) led the blue & gold with seven points on four goals and three assists.  Chance Lowry (Waterloo) and Aaron Koskowski (East Aurora) each finished with two goals and an assist while Lance Elithorpe (Shaftsbury, VT) was credited with a goal and an assists.  Morris Rogers (East Aurora), Keegan Phalen (East Aurora), Kyle Davis (Cortland/Homer) all found the back of the net once while Brad Zacher (Medina) passed out an assist.

The Pioneers were outshot 55 to 40 in the game.  Brad Stowell (Marcellus) made 19 saves in net for the blue & gold.

Alfred State concludes their three-game roadtrip on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest at Tompkins Cortland CC.
