Witchella Adds Another Honor

Alfred State freshmen forward Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) has earned another honor after a solid week for the Lady Pioneers.  Witchella was named the NJCAA DII women's basketball player of the week.

Witchella 15 for 25 (1 for 1 from three) and scored a career high 34 points in the Lady Pioneers 86-74 victory over Genesee CC.  She also grabbed 26 rebounds (14 offensive) and blocked six shots. 

She followed that game up with 12 points and 16 rebounds in just 23 minutes of play in a 62-56 victory vs. Jamestown CC that clinched the #2 seed for Alfred in this weekend's Region III Division II Tournament.  She also had three blocks and two steals in the game.

On the year, Witchella is averaging 16.8 points per game and 11.1 rebounds.  She leads the team with 65 blocks.

Jolee Sharp (Fort Scott CC) was named the DI player of the week while Kristina Shcherban (Hostos CC) was named the DIII player of the week.

The Lady Pioneers enter the postseason with a 18-8 record and will take on #3 seed Jamestown CC in the regional semifinals on Saturday at 3 p.m.
