Lady Pioneers are #2 Seed in Regionals

As expected, the Alfred State women's basketball team will be the #2 seed in the Region III Division II in this week's tournament.  The Lady Pioneers ended the regular season with a 18-8 overall mark and a 7-3 record in RIII DII.

Mercyhurst North East earned the #1 seed and will host the final four.  The Saints had an 8-2 mark in RIII DII play.  Alfred was #2 with a 7-3 mark while Jamestown CC is #3 (6-4), Erie CC is #4 (5-5), and Genesee CC is #5 (4-6).  Erie and Genesee will battle in a 1st round regional contest on Wednesday to see who will join the top three seeds in the final four.

The Pioneers will meet Jamestown CC in the 2nd semifinal game on Saturday.  Alfred and JCC split the season series with each team winning on their own home court.  JCC won 57-54 on Feb. 2 and Alfred defeated JCC just last Thursday 62-56.

The trio of Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy), Camille Romero (Queens Village), and Amie Brooks (Pavilion) have led the way for the blue & gold in RIII DII play.  Witchella is averaging 16.4 ppg and 12.6 rpg in regional play, Romero is averaging 15.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 3.4 apg, and Brooks has netted 14.2 ppg and grabbed 3.0 rpg.

Sat. 3/3: #1 Mercyhurst North East vs. winner of GCC/ECC - 1 p.m. @ MNE

Sat. 3/3: #2 Alfred State vs. #3 Jamestown CC - 3 p.m. @ MNE

Sun. 3/4: Championship Game - 1 p.m. @ MNE
