Pioneers Lead Regionals after the Multi
The Alfred State men’s indoor track and field team leads the Region III Championship after the multi-event. The Pioneer trio of participants finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the heptathlon held in conjunction with Cornell University’s Kane Invitational.
Travis Nagle (Randolph) led the Pioneer trio in the event by finishing 2nd overall. His point total of 4,198 sets a new school record. Alex Hewlett (Wellsville) was 3rd in the event with 3,603 points while Jordan Friedman (W. Nyack) was 4th with 3,370.
After the 1st event of the Regional Championship, ASC has 12 points and sits ahead of SUNY Delhi’s 10 and Mohawk Valley CC’s 1.
In the women’s pentathlon, Kayla Franchina (Gerry/Cassadaga Valley) finished the competition in 4th with 1,876 points. The Lady Pioneers are in 3rd place after the 1st event of Regionals with 2 points. Delhi leads with 14 followed by MVCC with 7.
In action in the Kane Invitational, Shawn Charles (Rochester/Greece Olympia) won the 200 m competition. He crossed the finish line in 22.81.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday when they compete in the Region III Championship at RIT. The championships will be held in conjunction with the Tiger Invitational.
