Big Run Dooms Pioneers

Alfred State led 33-27 at half but Mercyhurst North East used a 23-2 run early in the 2nd half to grab control for a 69-64 victory in another tight WNYAC battle at the Orvis Activities Center.  The Pioneers closed to within four in the final seconds but couldn't get any closer.

Patrick Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) led the blue & gold with 22 points and six boards while Alex Hall (Jamaica/Forest Hills) had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  DaQuan Allen (Brooklyn/Boys & Girls) finished with 10 points and five assists, Thomas Stein (Caledonia Mumford) chipped in eight, and Rasheem Creech (Brooklyn/Transit Tech) had six.

Dejuan McGaughy led the Saints with 24 points and eight assists while Anthony Jones finished with 20 points and 11 boards.  Geovante Rose also had a solid game with eight points and nine rebounds.

Alfred State shot 36.4% from the field for the game (42.3% in the 1st but only 31% in the 2nd) while MNE shot 48.3% (35.3% in the 1st and 65.4% in the 2nd).  Mercyhurst North East held a huge advantage on the boards, 45 to 29.

The Pioneers (5-13, 0-5 WNYAC) conclude a three game homestand at the Orvis Activities Center with a 7:30 p.m. contest vs. JCC-Olean.
