Lady Pioneers Advance with 7-0 Victory

The Alfred State College women's soccer team got the offense going as they defeated Erie CC 7-0 to advance in the Region III Division III Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers, the #6 seed, will travel to #3 Herkimer CCC on Tuesday for a 2nd round contest.

Holli Pierce (Livonia) and Jenna Lynn (York) combined to score six of the Lady Pioneers goals.  Pierce scored 3:55 into the game after getting a long throw in from Lacee Pearl.  Lynn made it 2-0, 27:35 into the game after getting a pass from Kerri Bellavia (Greece Athena).  Pierce sent the game into half with ASC leading 4-0 with two goals in the final 7:30 minutes of the half.  The first game after a long lead pass from Megan Votava (Alfred Almond) and the second was unassited.

Lynn netted her second of the game after a long pass from Danielle Henry (Arkport) gave her a break-a-way.  Pierce scored two minutes later on a goal assisted by Taylor Waite (Genesee Valley).  Amanda Graves (Prattsburgh) capped the scoring with a goal with just under 16 minutes left after getting a pass from Pearl.

Lynn now has 12 goals to lead the Lady Pioneers on the season while Pierce has 11.

ASC held a 23 to 9 shot advantage in the contest.  Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) made six saves in net to record the shutout.

The Pioneers, ranked #7 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, improve to 12-4 on the season as the advance to take on Herkimer.  ASC defeated Herkimer CCC 1-0 in their regular season meeting.

The contest is slated for a 12:30 p.m. start with the winner advancing to the Region III B finals on Saturday.
