Pioneers Can't Rally Back
After a sluggish 1st half, the Alfred State College men's soccer team put the pressure on but could not fully overcome the deficit and fell 2-1 to Tompkins Cortland CC in the rain and wind on Friday evening.
TC3 scored two goals thirteen minutes apart in the 1st half to mount a 2-0 lead. ASC got back into the game just six and a half minutes into the 2nd when Kawakami Kohei (Toyama, Japan) scored to cut the lead in half. Dawson Peckham (Webster Schroeder) was credited with the assist.
ASC kept the pressure on the rest of the 2nd half but were unable to get the equalizer. They had shots hit the cross bar and Panther goalie Brian Wagstaff made seven 2nd half saves.
TC3 held a 17-15 shot advantage with Nick Smith (Arkport) making 11 saves for the Pioneers.
The blue & gold are now 5-7-1 on the year while TC3 improves to 9-3-1.
Alfred State wraps up the regular season on Wednesday when they host Monroe CC at 4 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
