Women 18th, Men 21st at Westfield State

In a preview of the NJCAA Division III National Championship course, the Alfred State College women's cross country team finished 18th out of 40 teams while the men finished 21st out of 33 teams at the James Earely Invitational hosted by Westfield (MA) State College.

The women's team, ranked #1 in the latest NJCAA poll, scored 547 points and was the top NJCAA team at the meet that featured 352 athletes in the race.  Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) led the blue & gold with a 45th place finish (20:18) while Kim Lupo (Auburn) was 104th (21:30).  Emily Geesaman (Addison) was 115th (21:38), Claire Holleran (Penfield) was 177th (22:57), and Tess Fahey (Marathon) was 221st (23:56).

Brian Gooshaw (Elmira/Thomas Edison) led the men's team with a 75th place finish (28:37).  Tyler Pettit (Mexico) was 78th (28:47), Jordan Friedman (Clakstown South) was 89th (28:54), and Tom Lattanzi (Kings Park) was 187th (31:20).  The men scored 514 points and was the third best NJCAA school in the competition.

The Pioneers will return to action next Saturday when they travel to the University of Rochester Invitational.
