Wood Named National Player of the Week

Alfred State College freshmen defensive back John Wood (Rochester/East) has been named the NJCAA special teams player of the week.  Wood was instrumental in the Pioneers 49-27 victory over Stevens Tech on Saturday.

Wood led the defensive with nine tackles and accumulated 177 yards on four kick-off returns.  His return of 50-yards to start the 2nd half led to a touchdown one play later and his return of 87-yards for a score silenced any comeback hopes by Stevens.

David Vega (New Mexico Military Institute) was named offensive player of the week and  Caleb Leightnam (Rochester CTC, Minn.) was named defensive player of the week.
