Murphy and Wood Named ASC Athletes of the Week

Cross Country runner Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) and football player John Wood (Rochester/East) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the Sports Information department.

Murphy led the #1 ranked Lady Pioneers with a 38th place finish at the Houghton College Invitational.  She finished the 5k course as the top NJCAA runner in a race featuring mostly 4-year school competition in 20:02.77.  ASC finished in 10th place in the competition.

Wood had a great day defensively and on special teams as the Pioneers sent the homecoming crowd home happy with a 49-27 victory over Stevens Tech.  Wood led the team with nine tackles but accumulated 177 yards on four kick-off returns.  His return of 50-yards to start the 2nd half led to a touchdown one play later and his return of 87-yards for a score silenced any comeback hopes by Stevens.
