Lady Spikers Fall in Two Five-Setters

The Alfred State College volleyball team battled hard but fell in two five-set Region III Division III matches at Monroe CC on Thursday.  ASC fell 23-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 11-15 to Finger Lakes CC and then saw Monroe CC rally to the win the final three sets (25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 20-25, 12-15) to win in the nightcap.

Meghan Kraus (Trumansburg) led the way with 29 killds, 28 digs, and fives aces while Kay Phleghardt (Tioga) added 23 kills, 19 digs, and five aces.  Mandy Bush (Altoona, PA) passed out 73 assists and chipped in 23 digs, and 12 kills, Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) had 19 kills and 10 blocks, Kara Anderson (Ontario) had 27 digs, and Mishaya Tuttle (Campbell Savona) finished with 29 digs.

The Lady Pioneers are now 7-5 on the season and 3-2 in Region III Division III play.  The inner-pod at Monroe CC featured all three matches going five sets.  MCC started the evening off with a 3-2 victory over FLCC.

ASC travels to the FLCC Pod on Saturday where they will play Cayuga CC (approx. 11 a.m.), Onondaga CC (approx. 1 p.m.), and Jefferson CC (approx. 5 p.m.)
