Lady Pioneers Sweep Past Erie

Playing for the first time in over two weeks, the Alfred State College softball team scored 34 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Erie CC.  With the 19-9 and 15-7 victories the Lady Pioneers are now 3-7 overall and 2-2 in Region III Division III contests.

In the opener, Angela Depew (Wellsville) was 5 for 5 with 5 RBI's.  Her three-run homer in the 3rd started to put the game out of reach.  Danielle Hill (Addison) was 4 for 5, Kate Bailey (West Valley) collected three hits and 2 RBI, and Tara Scholla (Genesee Valley) had three hits.  Athena Scavo (Hornell) and Amber Harding (Fillmore) each drove in two.  On the mound, Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) earned her first collegiate victory.

Bailey was 4 for 4 (two doubles and a triple) with 3 RBI to pace the offense in the second game.  Stephanie White (Wantagh) was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, Hill chipped in two hits, and Depew was 2 for 3.  Pam Rupp (Cattaraugus Little Valley) earned the win onf the mound.

The Pioneers return to action on Friday when they take on Elmira College JV.  First pitch of the doubleheader is at 6 p.m.
