Three more Qualify for Track Nationals

Three more Alfred State College track and field athletes qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Championships with strong performances at the Hamilton College Continental Invitational on Saturday.

Megan Votava (Alfred Almond), Marcquis Johnson-Broughton (Rochester/Edison), and Alex Hewlett (Wellsville) all qualified.  Votava qualified in the discus with a toss of 28.18.  She also finished 5th in the 100 m hurdles (17.56) and long jump (4.29 m).  Johnson-Broughton was 3rd in the 400 hurdles in 58.39 to qualify while Hewlett was 3rd in the high jump with a leap of 1.82 to qualify.

Andy Jones (Milford) was 2nd in the hammer throw (43.54 m), Isiah Whiting (Hamden, CT) was 3rd in the 800 (2:01.06), and James Courte (Brewster) was 4th in the triple jump (12.40 m) and 8th in the long jump (5.98 m).  Russell Yerger-Moe (Wales Center/Iroquois) was 7th in the 400 (53.28) and Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda) was 8th in the 800 (2:05.57).

On the women's side, Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) was 4th in the 400 (1:03.52) and the 200 (26.90) while Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) was 5th in the 200 (27.02).

ASC was one of four NJCAA schools competing at the non-scoring event.  Nine NCAA Division III teams also competed.

The Pioneers return to action next Saturday when they compete at the U of Rochester Invitational.  Action is slated for a 9 a.m. start.
