Softball Falls in Season Opener DH

The Alfred State College softball team didn't get the offense going as they fell 7-3 to Mercer (NJ) CC and 8-0 to Sussex (NJ) CC in their 2011 season opener.

ASC and Mercer traded runs in the early innings until the Vikings took the lead for good in the 4th inning.  Tara Scholla (Genesee Valley) and Danielle Hill (Addison) each finished 1 for 3 with a RBI while Natalie Sylvester (Perry) and Angela Depew (Wellsville) each collected hits.  Sylvester tossed five innings on the mound allowing two earned runs.

In the nightcap versus Sussex, the Lady Pioneers fell behind 5-0 after the first inning and never could recover.  Kate Bailey (West Valley) collected the lone hit for ASC in the contest.

The blue & gold will hit the field again in Myrtle Beach, SC on Tuesday when they are scheduled for contests with Genesee CC (9 a.m.) and Dutchess CC (11 a.m.).
