Romero, Brooks, and Campbell Earn Honors
A trio of Alfred State College women's basketball players have earned postseason honors. Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) was named 1st team All-Region & All-WNYAC, Amie Brooks (Pavilion) was named 3rd team All-Region & All-WNYAC, and Shadeeka Campbell (Brooklyn/William Grady) was named honorable mention All-WNYAC.
Romero really came on during the 2011 portion of the season. She led the Lady Pioneers with a 17.5 point per game average in the teams 12 conference games. For the whole season she averaged 11.6 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, and passed out 53 assists. She was also credited with 45 steals. Romero started in 13 games, all 12 conference games, and appeared in 23.
Brooks led the Lady Pioneers on the season with a 12.5 point per game average. She connected on 44 three-pointers and shot 77.8% (70 for 90) from the foul line on the year. Brooks also chipped in 91 rebounds, 69 assists, and 57 steals. In conference play she averaged 13.6 points per game and 4.6 rebounds. Brooks was the lone Lady Pioneer to start in all 28 games.
Campbell appeared in 23 games and made 17 starts in her sophomore season. She averaged 8.9 points per game and 10.5 rebounds. She was slowed down by an injury in the 2011 portion but still managed to grabb 10.3 rebounds and score 6.8 points per game during conference play.
Freshman Nuri Bey (Bronnx/Evander Childs) also earned honors this past weekend at the Region III Division II Tournament. Bey was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in ASC's semifinal contest vs. eventual champion Genesee CC.
The Lady Pioneers lose just two sophomores from this year's 14-14 squad and will look to make a run towards the regional title in 2012.
