Lady Spikers Keep Rolling
The Alfred State College volleyball team continued their roll by sweeping through the Corning CC Tournament. The Lady Pioneers were 6-0 in claiming their third tournament title of the season.
In pool play the blue & gold went 4-0 by sweeping Tompkins Cortland CC (25-21, 25-12), SUNY Delhi (25-23, 22-11), Hudson Valley CC (25-9, 25-16), and Jefferson CC (25-15, 25-14). In the semifinals, ASC downed Corning CC (25-14, 25-23) before defeating #7 Monroe CC (25-14, 24-26, 15-11).
Meghan Kraus (Trumansburg) finished with 52 kills and six aces, Kelley Dumbletlon (Warsaw) chipped in 44 digs, 41 kills, and four aces, and Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) added 30 kills and 19 blocks. Brittany Haines (Salamanca) passed out 108 assists and was credited with 44 digs and six aces while Amanda Bush (Altoona, PA) had 50 digs.
Alfred State, 23-8, has won nine straight matches and 13 of their last 14. They have now won the Jefferson CC Tournament, the Alfred State College Tournament, and the Corning CC Tournament.
The Lady Pioneers wrap up the regular season on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. when they host Erie CC at the Orvis Activities Center. ASC will be wearing pink jerseys and participating in the national "Dig Pink" movement. Donations will be accepted for the Side-Out Foundation with prizes and contests throughout the game.
