Lady Pioneers Win Home Opener

The Alfred State College women's soccer team defeated Jefferson CC 4-2 in their 2010 home opener.  The Lady Pioneers are now 1-1 on the young season.

Abby Komarc (Horseheads) got the Lady Pioneers on the board 12 minutes into the game after getting a pass from Holli Pierce (Livonia).  Pierce scored her first of three goals five minutes later after getting a pass from Tara Scholla (Genesee Valley).  Pierce made it 3-0 eight minutes later on a long shot after getting a pass from Danielle Henry (Arkport).

In the 2nd half, Pierce put the game out of reach when she scored on a direct kick.

Jefferson added two goals in the final 20 minutes to cut the final deficit in the half.  Alicia Uhlein scored with 20:18 remaining and Brianna Guarino scored with 1:19 remaining.

ASC held a 17 to 12 shot advantage.  Mo Parks (Avoca) made six saves in net for Alfred.

The blue & gold return to action on Thursday when they take on Jamestown CC at 4 p.m.
