Q & A with Drew Hammond

Submitted by WelkerPM on Tue, 08/31/2010 - 1:41pm

Drew HammondSophomore offensive linemen Drew Hammond (Walton/Walton) took time and answered some questions from the Sports Information Department as the Alfred State College football team prepares for their 2010 season opener on Saturday.  ASC takes on the Apprentice School (Newport News, VA) on 9/4 with opening kickoff at 11 a.m. at Pioneer Stadium.

Describe what football preseason is like and what have you learned about yourself through it?

Football preseason is the start of about a week and a half of training. It tests your endurance, effort, and overall mental toughness. It’s good to train, because practices are grueling, but it’s all to benefit you. Personally, camp to me is fun. You meet all your new teammates and gain a bond that most people don’t understand.

What are some of your personal goals for the 2010 season?  What are some of the team goals?

Well some personal goals this season are to develop into a better overall player, but most of all becoming a better overall teammate and leader. As for the team goals, we all seem to be on the same page and ready to put in the effort to take it one game at a time, and work hard towards our bigger goals.

Where is your favorite place at Alfred State College, and why?

Pioneer Stadium. It’s my favorite place in Alfred because it’s the most exciting place on campus during the weekends.

How do you balance the responsibilities of being a student and an athlete?

Being a student and being an athlete is no easy task. It takes a lot of effort to get the work done while being busy every day for athletics. Time management skills are a must, and being able to be balance it all is important. When you put the time in, the benefits of a great education and a successful season will be the prize.
