Homecoming/Family Weekend Schedule
Alfred State College will host its annual Homecoming/Family weekend Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 16-19, on the Alfred campus. Hundreds of visitors are expected to converge on campus to reconnect with old friends or visit with their students, perhaps for the first time since dropping them off for the fall semester in August.
Activities begin Thursday, Sept. 16 with a women’s soccer game vs. Jamestown Community College at Pioneer Stadium. Later the men’s soccer team also takes on JCC. If outdoor sports aren’t your thing, a women’s volleyball game vs. Monroe Community College will be played in the Orvis gym. A dodge ball tournament, played under the lights at Pioneer Stadium, caps the day. Winners will receive special team tee-shirts; prizes will be awarded for the best team uniform, the biggest fan club, and best team spirit!
On Friday, Sept. 17, the annual Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held in the Orvis auditorium at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., the Pioneer Lounge is the site of the “Alfred’s Got Talent” Contest which is open to students and alumni in vocal, instrumental, dance, and theater/drama categories. All contestants get a tee-shirt and winners are eligible for up to $2,000 in prizes. Following the contest, revelers may stay in the Pioneer Lounge to participate in the Madden Tournament (video game contest), beginning at 11 p.m. Participants will be challenged to show off their gaming skills. The winners of each gaming system will win prize packages from the ASC Campus Store. Sign-ups begin at 10:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
Saturday, Sept. 18, brings a full day of activities! Following a continental breakfast at the Main Attraction, College President Dr. John M. Anderson will act as tour guide, conducting a bus tour of the campus. Immediately following the campus tour, Alfredians Bob and Sherry Volk will conduct a walking tour of the Village of Alfred. This activity is open to the first 40 participants to register. There is no fee for this activity; registration is necessary for the “count.”
From 11 a.m.-3 p.m. family fun abounds at the Gold Rush Gathering in the Orvis gymnasium; this year, sports-themed games, inflatables, and photo booths, to name a few, will provide fun for kids of all ages! Additionally, select culinary arts: bakery, production and management students will compete in a cake-baking contest. There will be a Chinese Auction for over $1,500 in Alfred State gear from the Campus Store so you can show your ASC spirit.
From noon until 2 p.m., alumni will join President Anderson for lunch in the Allegany Room, where the classes of 1960, 1985, and 2000 will be recognized. Pre-registration is required ($).
Also at noon, the Lady Pioneers soccer team will take on Mercyhurst Northeast at Pioneer Stadium; at 1 p.m., the baseball team will face Monroe Community College at Pioneer Field.
At 2:30 p.m., in the Orvis auditorium, Alfred State’s own version of Hollywood Squares, Alfred Squares, will feature ASC’s most colorful faculty, staff, and Greeks competing against each other, testing their knowledge of ASC trivia. This activity is rated PG-13! Additionally, the men’s soccer team will take on Mercyhurst Northeast at Pioneer Stadium.
From 4-6:30 p.m., join the tailgate party in the tent near Orvis. A barbecue dinner, complete with all the fixin’s will be available ($).

Winners will be announced at 5:45 p.m., and must be present to claim their prize or have made arrangements for someone to pick up the prize.
